Ken Cuccinelli, a Virginia Republican, is running for Governor of that state. He also wants to outlaw oral and anal sex. Wow.
Ten years after Lawrence v. Texas found laws that criminalize oral and anal sex unconstitutional (and one day before the Defense of Marriage Act was struck down), Virginia Attorney General and gubernatorial candidate Ken Cuccinelli filed an appeal asking the Supreme Court to revive the homophobic legislation.
Republicans have spent the past three decades raging against government intrusion into people's lives and yet they spend most of their energy devising new laws to restrict our freedoms. Do they not see this as a huge contradiction? Probably not.
The thing that distinguishes Republicans today is their insistence that everyone in America must conform to their rigid lifestyle and beliefs. Today's Republicans exhibit an irrational fear of anyone who is different from them. I suspect this has something to do with their fear of reality. They are scared to use their brain because in the past every time they tried to think for themselves the myths that are the bedrock of their lives began to crumble.
So the Ken Cuccinellis of the world try to grasp power so they can pass laws to force the rest of us to conform to their irrational morality (like outlawing oral and anal sex). That is why their party is ultimately doomed.
